Lillian Chick from Rochester, NH never intended to become involved in trap shooting or any other kind of shooting. Her husband, Robert Chick Sr., enjoyed skeet shooting and decided to buy himself a fancy new skeet gun. Not knowing whether his wife would approve of the purchase, he gave the gun to HER as a gift, thinking she would never use it and that he'd get it back. Much to his surprise, Lillian loved the gun and began shooting skeet, eventually switching to trap along with her husband and their son Robert Jr.
Lillian joined the ATA in 1970 and became a life member in 1979. She shot her last registered tournament in 2008, and during her 38-year registered shooting career logged 30,775 singles, 17,400 handicap, and 14,100 doubles targets. Over the years, she earned 19 New Hampshire Lady titles, and numerous Husband/Wife & Parent/Child trophies. Her lifetime singles average was 92.17%, only 1.46 points behind her husband. Her proudest moment was winning Class A against a male opponent. Her son said that she always liked to "beat the boys".
One of her favorite family activities was going with her husband and son to skeet, trap & turkey shoots throughout New England, New York, Ohio, and Nova Scotia. During the 1960's, the Chick family managed the clay target operations of the Major Waldron Sportsmen's Association, Pease Air Force Base Skeet & Trap Ranges, and Kittery Clay Birders in Kittery, ME. In June of 1992, Lillian was granted Life Membership at Major Waldron Sportsmen's Association.
Many remember Lillian & Robert Sr. as fixtures of state trap shoots. Their business, Chick Embroidery, sold embroidered shooting apparel, a tradition that her son Robert Jr and other family members carry on today. Lillian's initials appear on the 2025 New Hampshire State Shoot pin.
